The image is silkscreen printed onto special paper which has been coated with a water soluble base. The inks are made of highly pigmented ceramic glazes which melt when exposed to heat. The overall image is given a final coating of lacquer film, known as the cover-coat. When the decal is immersed in water, the coating on the paper is dissolved.
